In the abstract works of Ho Hoang Dai, different aspects of human life are depicted. An art critic once said Ho Hoang Dai is one of the pioneers of collage (in Vietnam) by artistically manipulating color paper, fabric and photography.
With strong influence of Western oil painting technique, he began constructing collages in 1963. Human figures are a signature trait of Ho Hoang Dai whose believed the beauty of the landscape was not complete without a human presence. Ho Hoang Dai spent his childhood in Hue, the former Imperial capital of Vietnam and much of his art depicts the enlivened environment of his native city and the rural countryside. For him, painting is a passion and inspiration.
Ho Hoang Dai graduated from the College of Fine Arts in Saigon in 1957. From 1968 to 1979 he was an instructor at the College of Fine Art in Hue. He currently lives and works in Ho Chi Minh City.
