In this whimsical mixed-media work, Chung attempts to re-imagine Vietnam’s urban landscape in reference to the country’s rapid pace of economic development. Entirely fictive, Chung pictures an increasingly urban Vietnam that is part sci-fi, cosplay and fantasy as engineers, scientists and outer space creatures convene as new inhabitants of urban Vietnam. Lending its lead visual from Japanese Enoki mushrooms, the Enokiberry Trees are representative of the rapidity of urban development in Vietnam. The Enokiberry Trees also mirror the parasitic nature of mushrooms in its ability to overtake host sites and destabilise existing eco-systems. (Singapore Art Museum)
